Hi all totally new to bmx building and wondering about any little pointers and general advise relevant to a mk1 burner . eg. irregular sized stuff or what to avoid using would be appreciated
im just getting started into building / restoring a mk1 burner (from frame) a work friend got me interested and as a young lad was only every on friends bikes . remember a friend with a blue/yellow burner and a lot of mongooses about.

Im pretty savvy with hands on work (electrician by trade ) so should get into the swing of it.
Its the different sizes of stuff that confuses me .

first impressions of the forum are great , and plenty of great bikes on here !

Welcome mate. If you need any advise just ask. Mk1 tuffs (blue/yell) are awesome and a proper icon.

Will I need a 28 mm seat post to fit mk1 frame ? Looking for a layback one .

All Mk1 parts are interchangeable with the Mk2, apart from the wider seatpost cna post clamp that you find on the Mk1. Mk1 layback seat posts don't come up for sale that often, so another option is to fit a shim into the frame and fit a Mk2 layback seatpost. The shims are more common, but I personally prefer the fatter look of a Mk1 layback as it keeps the flow with the fatter tube sizing.

Perfect , just what I was looking for. Info on the crank was my other confusion . Great stuff , not even seen my frame yet as working away . Will document my build and pic .

Yeah a layback is a bit of must on a mk1 if your taller than a hobbit.
I had a shim in mine as a kid and a renthal layback.

I managed to get a 26.6 mm layback post and a suitable shim . Will up load some pics of how I'm doing , still not seen any of by purchases .... As working away but home tomorrow .
